You are my Angel

You are my Angel!

Did anyone ever tell you, “You are my angel”. If you do not remember, then your mother might have said that in your childhood. Children are often called angels, and many parents tell their story to their children about angels. In every society if you look for children’s books in the libraries you will find that angels are a common topic in the story books. My question is “why do we call our children or some people as our angels?” or “why are we fascinated about angel stories?” or “why do we want to be like angels?”

Angels are not human

We are human and we will remain human and why can’t we say that you are my human, or I want to be a human, instead why do we relate ourselves with angels whereas we know that angels is a different being created by Allah for a different purpose. How much have we thought about it? Again, sometimes we hear the speakers describe human nature as either angelic or animalistic nature. Moreover, generally people admire the angelic nature over the animalistic nature. The question again, why do we admire angels so much?

Angels are sinless

What is sin? Sin is like dirt on your table, or rotten egg on your plate, or stain on your clothes, but these things we can see but we cannot see the sins because sin makes stain in our hearts. The heart is the centre for humans and when the centre becomes polluted with sins then the nature, the speech, the manner, and the action of that sinner becomes ugly and polluted as the rotten egg on the plate. Does anyone like rotten eggs? No-one does because it smells bad, and it makes us sick. That is why we have a natural aversion towards rotten eggs. Angels are sinless because Allah made them pure and did not make them subject to test as humans. Therefore, angels are automatically not designed to be allowed to commit sins as we are. For the purity of angels and for their sinlessness we admire angels, and we like to be like them. Babies are sinless and that is why we compare our babies with angels.

Can we develop angelic qualities?

Yes, we can. Allah has given us the freedom of choice for testing us and with that freedom we can become better than angels. For example, if we have pure faith, pure manner, pure knowledge and pure sincerity to obey Allah all the time then we become better than angels. But if we choose to be immoral, greedy, cruel, violent, and we practice inhuman activities then we become lower than the animals. This is the test on us.

An example from angels

Angels are free from arrogance. Allah has quoted an angel’s comment in the Holy Quran to inspire us. Angel says, “Glory to YOU. We have no knowledge, except what YOU have taught us. Verily in truth it is YOU WHO are perfect in knowledge and wisdom” (Al-Quran 2:32). From this example we find that angels are not boasters, nor arrogant, but they are humble to Allah, and they freely admitted about their shortcomings, and they have acknowledged that Allah is ALL-KNOWING. As Muslims, can we become free from arrogance like the angels. If we can, Allah will raise our status similar or above the status of angels.
